Born in Spanish Town, Jamaica and raised all along the east coast; Ayanna James Kimani’s first studio release was the cult classic comedy, Insecure on HBO. Ayanna designed the first three seasons, where the costumes quickly became a character. Moving on from Insecure, Ayanna went on to design the MTV Movie & TV Awards hosted by Tiffany Haddish where she had to reinvent some of Ruth Carter’s iconic Black Panther costumes. She would also design the Family Feud Film starring Jay Z, Beyonce and Blu Ivy and director Ava DuVernay. She went on and worked with Ava on season 4 of Queen Sugar. Ayanna’s work can also be seen on Season 1 of Council of Dad’s, and Netflix’s Tall Girl 2 produced by Wonderland Sound & Vision. For the CW, she designed the All American spinoff, All American: Homecoming and the first season of Tom Swift. Ayanna just recently wrapped The Slumber Party, for Disney+.

Ayanna Kimani is a multinational, with citizenship in the US, Canada and Jamaica. On her off time, she enjoys traveling with her beautiful family, collecting art, textile and architecture coffee table books, tending to her plants and making plans of one day opening a sustainable textile manufacturing facility in her hometown.
